there are two problems: a) two reader for the same hardware. for example if someone installs openct and libccid and the same time, both will try to use the same usb ccid reader, and that would cause problems. b) two ways to opensc. opensc supports both openct directly as well as pcsc and ct-api interfaces, and thus also pcsc with openct as ifdhandler. however if opensc sees the same card/reader once directly and once via pcsc, it might get confused as well. in theory proper locking should prevent issues, in practice I'm not sure. I think I already saw bug reports from confused users. (and seeing the same hardware twice in "opensc-tool -l" is confusing). so I'd be very careful about enabling everything by default.
