(with the very same output as submitted to this bug report.) Then I went to tracker.debian.org, saw two debci regressions and indeed https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/testing/amd64/l/logidee-tools/1779974/log.gz (attached) shows the very same symptoms as we are seeing with def-ref: Paragraph ended before \ProvidesPackageRCS@i was complete.
