It was intentional relax the driver dependency in order to perform the CUDA 9.2 transition in time for the transition freeze. Please use the drivers from experimental for CUDA. I don't want to upload a new driver version to unstable before I got the driver in stretch updated to the well tested 390.xx series in sid. Andreas
