sbuild should now be able to cope with a chroot that only has Essential:yes packages and apt installed and zero setup otherwise. For example if the sbuild user or group don't exist in the chroot, sbuild will just create them. Hence your error should definitely go away with sbuild 0.78.0 and thus I closed this bug.
