I considered that and my conclusions are set out in the commit message
for the patch I have just emailed to the bug (and which I meant to
email the bug earlier).

Note that prior to always-build-in-playtree, dgit would always
actually delete the files in this situation.

It would be possible to introduce --clean=git-ff,no-check but I think
it would be a bit weird and adding more cases here doesn't help much.
