Since the bug against xkbcomp has been open for six months without any progress, I think gnome-settings-daemon should be fixed so that it never sets the 'grp:alts_toggle' option.

From a user's point of view the option is broken anyway; perhaps worse than broken, since setting it triggers a number of harmful effects, the least damaging of which is that their Gnome session becomes unusable for about a minute while gnome-settings-daemon is repeatedly started, killed and restarted until gnome-session gives up and they are left with the default and extremely ugly GTK theme and no icons, _every time they log in_; and since the harmful option is often set without the user explicitly setting it in the first place.
