Package: git Version: 2.20.1 I would like to request the renaming or removal of the "git" software package. The term "git" is a pejorative term and insults its users. Such a package has no place in the official Debian repositories.
I am encouraged by Debian's recent decision to remove the "weboob" package for this very reason and would like to continue this atmosphere of welcoming and inclusiveness by making sure that any potentially offensive package is renamed or removed before it can offend unsuspecting users. And I am glad that Debian is showing how much it values the ideals we should all share of making sure that the field of software engineering is a safe space for all. Obviously, certain freedoms and access to software need to be curtailed when such things may offend others. Please let me know what can be done about this offending package, and don't hesitate to let me know if I can help in any way. I'm not the best coder, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that merit really shouldn't be the deciding factor for code contribution. I look forward to working with you to make the free software ecosystem more welcoming and inclusive. All My Best, Dan Westhall
