Dear Maintainer,

I have the same problem with a snapscan 1236u.

After connection I see my scanner with dmesg:

        > [  129.296040] usb 1-8: new full-speed USB device number 4 using
xhci_hcd
        > [  129.647322] usb 1-8: New USB device found, idVendor=06bd,
idProduct=0002, bcdDevice= 0.71
        > [  129.647325] usb 1-8: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,
SerialNumber=0
        > [  129.647328] usb 1-8: Product: SNAPSCAN 1236U
        > [  129.647330] usb 1-8: Manufacturer: AGFA
        > [  210.265098] usb 1-8: USB disconnect, device number 4
        > [  224.448040] usb 3-4: new full-speed USB device number 4 using
xhci_hcd
        > [  224.711350] usb 3-4: New USB device found, idVendor=06bd,
idProduct=0002, bcdDevice= 0.71
        > [  224.711353] usb 3-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,
SerialNumber=0
        > [  224.711356] usb 3-4: Product: SNAPSCAN 1236U
        > [  224.711358] usb 3-4: Manufacturer: AGFA

then the command sane-find-scanner is able to find my scanner :

        > ...           > found USB scanner (vendor=0x06bd [AGFA],
product=0x0002
[SNAPSCAN 1236U]) at libusb:003:004
        > ...

but scanimage -L is not able to find it :

        > No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something
different,
        > check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
        > sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
        > which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

I'm on debian testing with libsane in version 1.0.27-3.1

My scanner is listed in /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf

        > #Agfa 1236U
        > usb 0x06bd 0x0002

and the command ls -l /usr/share/sane/snapscan returns
        > ls: cannot access '/usr/share/sane/snapscan': No such file or
directory

Kind regards,

Gaƫl
