Before your mail, I would also have been for keeping the status quo (Since I remembered that local parts are case sensitive according to internet standards). However, your mail has rectified my memory, and I would tend to change the default, even if upstream doesn't do so. However, we should do this in a way which doesn't interfere with existing installations (don't cause breakage by updates within the same major release - 2.2).
