Package: man-db Version: 2.8.4-3 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer,
the current wording for the option "MANROFFOPT" is: The contents of $MANROFFOPT are added to the command line every time man invokes the formatter (nroff, troff, or groff). 1) This has lead to a misconception by me, understanding "command line" as being for the "man" command. 2) The piece "ROFF" in the name is "buried" in the name, so it was not really noticed by me until now ("MAN_ROFF_OPT" would let "ROFF" stand out). So I suggest making it explicit what "command line" refers to: ... added to the command line of the formatter (nroff, troff, or groff) every time man invokes it. The option "MANROFFOPT" can solve a "problem" I have had with the input variable 'F' in manuals created by "pod2man". See for example debian bug #847972, bug-groff #52983, and web page rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=75434. -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.18.10-2 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=is_IS.iso88591, LC_CTYPE=is_IS.iso88591 (charmap=ISO-8859-1), LANGUAGE=is_IS.iso88591 (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init) Versions of packages man-db depends on: ii bsdmainutils 11.1.2+b1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.69 ii dpkg 1.19.2 ii groff-base 1.22.3-10 ii libc6 2.27-8 ii libgdbm6 1.18.1-2 ii libpipeline1 1.5.0-2 ii libseccomp2 2.3.3-3 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.11.dfsg-1 man-db recommends no packages.
