.asoundrc method is usual. What is wrong with configuring a
asoundrc?

And yes, I can't do more here. I'll leave the bug open and maybe tag
it as wontfix in a few weeks....

On my machine, the following command fixes the issue:
# mv /etc/alsa/conf.d/99-pulseaudio-default.conf.example /etc/alsa/conf.d/99-pulseaudio-default.conf

Could that be the fix?
