Further testing had indicated that it will not unlock at all even with a
password when this occurs. I had dropped to tty1 and changed my password to
"user" even just to make sure that I wasn't typing the password wrong, and
it still would not unlock the session. The only way to get back in is to
drop to tty1 and restart lightdm with systemctl. I am going to have to look
into another DM or another locking method as this is really aggravating
that if I lock my machine for more than a minute or so, I cannot get back
into it without restarting the DM.
