Thanks, it is generated by pod2man in upstream TeX Live and the pod syntax in a2ping.pl is broken. I have fixed the syntax upstream in texlive, and informed Peter to update in his main copy, too. Means that the next update of the TeX Live packages should bring a corrected version of the man page. Thanks for reporting.
