gconf's last release was about 5 years ago. It has been replaced by dconf / gsettings. We are still keeping gconf around for Debian Buster to allow for smooth conversion of some user settings, but it will be removed in Debian Bullseye. gconfmm is the C++ port of gconf and is not needed any longer any in Debian.
