I've finally managed to identify the cause for this bug, which turned out to be a pretty subtle aliasing issue in src/exec/libdx/v3.c, uncovered by new optimizing features in gcc 4.0. Barring a better fix from upstream, I'm probably going to turn strict aliasing off for this file and lbvector.c in the same directory.
