Package: lintian Severity: wishlist
Dear Maintainer, I would like to ask you to provide some checks for spotting wrong indentations of paragraph separators into long descriptions. E.g. Package: python3-ghost Description-md5: c97396987883115e33c12a7995af18f6 Description-en: webkit web client library Ghost.py is a scriptable web browser as Python library, based on WebKit. It support JavaScript and can be used e.g. for testing, web scraping, and automation. . This package provides the Python 3.x module. As you see, the paragraph separator, i.e. a single dot, is wrongly indentated (two spaces from the beginning of the line rather than only one as per Debian Policy [1]). Side effects: [a] package descriptions at packages.d.o look pretty ugly [2] [b] "misindentated" dot is not recognized by DDTP as a valid separator and this issue leads into more work for translators since identical paragraphs are automatically translated by the system but in this case they are not (e.g. the sentence "This package provides the Python 3.x module." for the package above). Occurrences currently involved: $ sed -nr '/^ +\. *$/p' Translation-en | wc -l 91 $ sed -nr '/^ +\.$/p' Translation-en | wc -l 91 Thanks for reading and kind regards.
