That might help. ;-)

Of course I can establish a private default in /etc/logrotate.d,
but do you think you could add a reasonable default to /etc/\
logrotate.conf, just as a last resort for all installations? A
huge number (e.g. 2^30) might do.

This should make sure that at least 99% of all installations
won't notice any difference to the current default settings. But
it would reduce the risk of a /var partition running out of
space, breaking logrotate's compress feature.
