Package: smartmontools
Version: 6.5+svn4324-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I installed smartmontools with no changes and Linux 4.17 from
backports (I'm using the non-stable kernel because I'm trying
to identify an unrelated bug in Linux's support for AMD Zen).

dmesg shows the error "program smartd is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl,
please convert it to SG_IO" thousands of times, in fact, about 5 every
seconds.

Strangely, this bug was marked as fixed in 2005 against a 2.6 kernel,
meaning that for some reason, smartd is using the old API again.

This is on a machine using md and LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS3008
PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-3.
