As specified in control message (sorry, used different address):
Mc processes filename correctly. Then it is passed to 'see' command, which
changes it mysteriously (possibly because of & character):
$ see --debug=1 Jan\ Garbarek\ \&\ The\ Hilliard\ Ensemble\ -\ Mnemosyne\
bck.jpg
 - parsing parameter "Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble - Mnemosyne
bck.jpg"
 - Reading mime.types file "/home/carramba/.mime.types"...
 - Reading mime.types file "/etc/mime.types"...
 - extension "jpg" maps to mime-type "image/jpeg"
 - Reading mailcap file "/home/carramba/.mailcap"...
 - Reading mailcap file "/etc/mailcap"...
Processing file "Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble - Mnemosyne bck.jpg" of
type "image/jpeg" (encoding=none)...
 - checking mailcap entry "image/jpeg; gwenview '%s'; test=test -n "$DISPLAY""
 - program to execute: gwenview '%s'
 - running test: test -n "$DISPLAY"  (result=0=true)
 - executing: gwenview '/tmp/filevpPmvp'
