Hi Stefanos, thank you for your report. I can confirm this on the latest stable Debian release (10.1.26-0+deb9u1). Problem is also present on Debian testing release (1:10.1.35-1).
I see two solutions: - the one you suggested 'loose-default-character-set=utf8mb4'; - using 'character-sets-dir=utf8mb4'.
