You seem to encounter a bug reported earlier today against appstream already, which is the package including the hook failing here, so I am reassigning & merging so they can handle it there. apt/aptitude/other libapt-based frontends will all show this behavior in their update commands – but its "harmless" at least in terms of the update operation itself: apt and co work as before, have pulled updated files and can install upgrades. Impaired is "just" whatever appstream needs the hook for (guesstimate is to parse Component files and icons, so the appstore-type applications might not work as intended).
