Package: par2
Version: 0.4-6
Severity: normal

par2 can only read the names of the files to be protected or repaired from
the command line, which has a limited size. It is therefore impossible to
protec
t a large number of files with common recovery par2 files (I think this is
best than having different par2 files associated with several different sets
of
files): an "Argument list too long" error occurs:
$ find ./ -name '*' -exec par2 c par.par2 {} +
find: par2: Liste d'arguments trop longue
In particular one cannot (or at least I cannot) generate par2 files to
protect the whole content of a backup DVD (and this is a current usage I
believe). T
he workaround that consists in creating one archive file (eg. with tar) and
then adding redundant data to it is unstisfying.
I suggest that par2 should have the capability to read the file names from
the standard input or from a file, like other programs do.
