But there is no way you can know which interface the user might want to use.
Users can have Ethernet interfaces (with or without VLAN tagging), ppp
interfaces, RDSI, ATM, bridged interfaces, WiFi etc.. Doing a full search of
possible interfaces is, IMHO, something not possible...

I think it's best to do it like I do in the patch: ask the admin for the name
of the interface if 'eth0' is down.
