Something I'd like to eventually consider doing, is make dpkg get support for system user/group handling, in a declarative way. This makes more sense once dpkg starts tracking all fsys metadata. I thought I had sent this out, but apparently not, so I've publised my local notes into an early draft of this: <https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Dpkg/Spec/SysUser>. I also think that several of the contentious topics should just end up being configurable by the admin, and then we'd pick the most conservative default. Such as not removing the users on package removal/purge, but let the admin configure to do so. So I'd appreciate that any possible changes to policy would not make something like the above unworkable. Thanks, Guillem
