The only thing gbp could do about it is to not use tar to unpack the
tarballs but rather use something that copes with what uscan did
correctly.
That said thing #831870 should have a higher priority (I think) and this
should be the thing fixed. I'd rather invest time there rather than
workign around it in gbp.
