I'm not sure. It should really be helpful if you report an issue against
the mate-eiciel github and add a link if needed to the Nautilus patch to
have the input of the developer.
I don't have the background to give you a better answer. I'd prefer to
see the input of upstream author.
What file manager are you using? Caja or Nautilus?

No clue, I just tried to build it (as part of QA). That failed and I
sent a patch. I've sent more than 1000 patches fixing build failures now
and I admit that I don't try using each and every package that I fix.
I understand. I'm part of the Debian Mate Team and I don't use
caja-eiciel myself.
Looks like upstream's mail bounces. Is nautilus eiciel dead upstream? If
so maybe take over rather than fork?
It's not as easy as we expect. I should check and come back here.
