Awesome :-) > In general I'm not sure there's much value in packaging Emacs lisp in > Debian, given the availability and ease of use of package.el and the > various package archives. Yeah, this is a long-running debate...should Debian provide only the basics and let users install everything else from the internet, or should Debian provide a curated and supported subset of various package archives. I'm in the latter camp, but personally I think that it would be wonderful if it was easier to grab up-to-date browser plugins and ELPA packages on Debian stable Re: the value in a Debian-packaged curated subset of MELPA and GNU Elpa: Trust (not random unsigned code off of github), and compatibility--we have a team dedicated to making sure they work properly with each other, and to work with all of the upstreams to make this a reality. Worst-case scenario explicit breaks would be declared. Sean, did you ever write a blog post or short paper about the vision and scope of dh-elpa? It would be nice if this was more visible to users. I've been asked about it at least a dozen times this last year ;-) Cheers, Nicholas
