I was able to follow your tips to get Samba working again!I posted the config files for smb.conf and sssd.conf on the samba mailing list: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2018-June/216623.html I guess this isn't really a Samba or Debian packaging bug as we're not following instructions from any official Samba Howto.
