Hi,
for what it's worth, i was seeing this issue with pure-ftpd-ldap on
jessie (with 1.0.36-3.2), which was apparently triggered by invalid
logins from unknown users:

Upgrading to stretch (with 1.0.43-3) made the crashes disappear, i
tested it manually by trying to login with an invalid user/passwd, and
now in syslog i have:
[WARNING] Authentication failed for user [foo]
previously, the process would just crash. So, to me this issue can be
marked as 'fixed in stretch' or whatever tagging is used in debbugs :) I
looked at upstream changelog and nothing stood out that would have fixed
this issue...
