With 'session optional pam_tmpdir.so' in /etc/pam.d/common-session
(which is included by /etc/pam.d/su), temporary directories are created
but the TMP environmental variable is not set:

 1000
 $ su
 Password:
 # echo $TMP
 /tmp/user/1000
 #
