Was that choice "System X11 Default" or similar? What did you expect it
to run / what did it run before it stopped working?
What has changed between the yesterday and today that means you can no
longer select it? Did you upgrade some packages?
I believe the intention is that "System X11 Default" runs whatever xdm
would run, possibly involving ~/.xsession, ~/.Xsession,
/usr/bin/x-session-manager, /usr/bin/x-window-manager or a fallback to
/usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator. The reason why it has such a hopelessly
generic name is that we can't predict what it will do.
