The new 3.x version introduces data incompatibilities in sqlite and other db formats that can be managed only in 2.6.19+ I think that in order to manage the same database with multiple versions, at least a backports into stable for 2.6.20 should be considered. A pre-req for that is having that version in testing for some time. I can volunteer to take care of a backports for that.
