it seems like this is going to take a while to update.
Meanwhile, I sent in a patch [1], and it got "applied, with a small
change" [2]. You may want to do the following:
apt-get source network-manager-applet
sudo apt-get build-dep network-manager-applet
fakeroot ./debian/rules binary
sudo dpkg -i ../libnma0*.deb
Plus minus a few 'cd'.
