Thanks for the information.
A new build of the Debian package was uploaded a few weaks ago, so it’s still 
“maintained”.
This build fixes a minor issue regarding a dependency.
So, it looks like the package is not really maintained.
A wishlist “bug” calls for an upgrade to the latest upstream version, so I 
don’t understand why no one pays attantion to it.

Regarding the systemd issue, the script starts perfectly in Debian 8 (Jessie).
I know very little about systemd, but I guess the version in Strech and later 
in some way causes the script to don’t start.
Since it involvs systemd, perhaps the systemd people should be notified?
If a systemd-needed package doesn’t “work”, maybee it should be removed from 
the archive?
