I just happened to find this bug report after researching #833182... it
looks like it had a very generic title, and all sorts of issues got tacked
on - but Giuseppe Bilotta's original issue came down to startx vs. xinit, so
that should be the title there.
The complaints about needing to either use libpam-systemd or
xserver-xorg-legacy should be split to a separate bug report.
These were first articulated by James Richardson, so I'm resetting
submitter.
