Thank you for the report, and I apologize for not responding promptly.
It looks like this is a general OpenLDAP issue, rather than a
Debian-specific one. If that's the case, it would be best if you could
send your proposed change directly to the ITS, following upstream's
guidelines for contributing:

Due to upstream's IPR requirements I'm afraid I cannot simply forward
the patch on your behalf.
I would strongly prefer the change be reviewed and ideally accepted
upstream before we consider pulling it in as a Debian patch.
