As root, right after powering up the scanner, running scanimage -L results in a 5 second delay then it prints:
device `avision:libusb:001:012' is a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 7400c flatbed scanner Running it again results in a 60 second delay, then it prints the "No scanners were identified." message. Sure enough, running sane-find-scanner after that shows: could not fetch string descriptor: Operation timed out could not fetch string descriptor: Pipe error found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0, product=0x0801) at libusb:001:012 found USB scanner (vendor=0x138a, product=0x0007) at libusb:001:004 (The 004 one must be my webcam. Strange that scanimage -L doesn't show that.)
