After comparing with another system not showing the bug, I can now confirm that the problem is caused by having an incompatible version of the libpoppler-qt4-4 package installed from a 3rd-party repository. (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/stevepassert/Debian_8.0/) I'll file a bug against this package, sorry for the noise. After downgrading libpoppler-qt4-4 from 0.48.0-2~bpo8 to 0.26.5-2+deb8u2 texworks again works as expected. Regards, Hartmut
