Package: exim4-base Version: 4.89-2+deb9u2 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer,
exim4 isn't able to use SMTPUTF8 in it's default configuration within Debian. According to https://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch-internationalisation.html this is a decision to take while compiling exim4 (you need libidn and libidn2 and some additional configuration lines in the Makefile, see src/EDITME), so this is not something you can configure afterwards. I'd like to ask you to enable this in exim as a default. I already had the situation that a normal site tried to send a mail with UTF8-Header and it got bounced back to the sender. best regards, Hanno Wagner <wag...@debian.org> -- Package-specific info: Exim version 4.89 #1 built 28-Nov-2017 21:58:00 Copyright (c) University of Cambridge, 1995 - 2017 (c) The Exim Maintainers and contributors in ACKNOWLEDGMENTS file, 2007 - 2017 Berkeley DB: Berkeley DB 5.3.28: (September 9, 2013) Support for: crypteq iconv() IPv6 PAM Perl Expand_dlfunc GnuTLS move_frozen_messages Content_Scanning DKIM DNSSEC Event OCSP PRDR PROXY SOCKS TCP_Fast_Open Lookups (built-in): lsearch wildlsearch nwildlsearch iplsearch cdb dbm dbmjz dbmnz dnsdb dsearch ldap ldapdn ldapm mysql nis nis0 passwd pgsql sqlite Authenticators: cram_md5 cyrus_sasl dovecot plaintext spa tls Routers: accept dnslookup ipliteral iplookup manualroute queryprogram redirect Transports: appendfile/maildir/mailstore/mbx autoreply lmtp pipe smtp Fixed never_users: 0 Configure owner: 0:0 Size of off_t: 8 Configuration file is /var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.14.5-zgsrv20080 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages exim4-base depends on: ii adduser 3.115 ii anacron 2.3-24 ii cron [cron-daemon] 3.0pl1-128+b1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.61 ii exim4-config [exim4-config-2] 4.89-2+deb9u2 ii libc6 2.24-11+deb9u1 ii libdb5.3 5.3.28-12+deb9u1 ii lsb-base 9.20161125 ii netbase 5.4 Versions of packages exim4-base recommends: ii bsd-mailx [mailx] 8.1.2-0.20160123cvs-4 ii psmisc 22.21-2.1+b2 Versions of packages exim4-base suggests: ii bsd-mailx [mail-reader] 8.1.2-0.20160123cvs-4 pn exim4-doc-html | exim4-doc-info <none> pn eximon4 <none> ii file 1:5.30-1+deb9u1 ii jed [mail-reader] 1:0.99.19-7+b1 ii mutt [mail-reader] 1.7.2-1 ii openssl 1.1.0f-3+deb9u1 pn spf-tools-perl <none> ii swaks 20170101.0-1 -- Configuration Files: /etc/logrotate.d/exim4-base changed [not included] -- debconf information excluded
