Ubuntu (and all its flavors) have been shipping only the gtk3 version
by default since 5.2 over a year ago. Only the gtk3 version provides
native Wayland support and has better display of keyboard
shortcuts/accelerators in the File/Edit/View menus.

This bug is really about Buster, which is not expected to be a stable
release until 2019.
