When i take a picture with my webcam with cheese, it shows up in the
bottom bar as a generic icon, rather than as a thumbnail.
on stderr at the same time, cheese emits:

if i investigate the resulting image with GraphicsMagick, it doesn't
complain about any obvious problems:
