Hi Markus. [Markus Koschany] > I believe the current behavior is correct.
Note, I am not talking about correct or incorrect desktop file content. My focus is the user experience with many games installed on a Debian machine. I simply believe the user experience while browsing the menus is better if similar games are grouped together in submenus like it is done i KDE when many games are installed. I do not believe the current desktop file is wrong, just that it could be made better. :) > The Application category is deprecated and should not be used anymore. Aha. Did not know this. Perhaps a lintian check should be made to suggest its removal? :) > It is mostly a matter of taste whether you categorize this game as an > ActionGame or ArcadeGame. I agree. But in KDE, at least when I wrote the bug report, there were no submenu for ActionGame, only for ArcadeGame. The end result is that those visiting the Games->Arcade menu fail to find marsshooter, which I believe is doing the users a disservice. :) > For instance in GNOME 3 there are no submenus at all and generally > speaking the respective desktop environment is responsible for > implementing the FreeDesktop standard. Oh. I wonder how users find such flat menu structure. Would be interesting with a usability study. :) > If I patch the desktop file the game would simply show up in two > different menus and I don't think that's worth carrying a patch. I believe it would improve the gamers experience in Debian a bit. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen
