For the record, I can't reproduce your report. I didn't have linux-cpupower installed at all, so installed it and then upgraded the kernel to the one in proposed-updates. Doing so upgraded linux-cpupower to the corresponding version from proposed-updates, with no suggestion of updating to the backports package. adam@jacala:~$ apt-cache policy linux-image-amd64 linux-image-amd64: Installed: 4.9+80+deb9u2 Candidate: 4.9+80+deb9u2 Version table: 4.13+86~bpo9+1 100 100 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian stretch-backports/main amd64 Packages *** 4.9+80+deb9u2 500 500 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status adam@jacala:~$ apt-cache policy linux-cpupower linux-cpupower: Installed: 4.9.65-3 Candidate: 4.9.65-3 Version table: 4.13.13-1~bpo9+1 100 100 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian stretch-backports/main amd64 Packages *** 4.9.65-3 500 500 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian stretch-proposed-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4.9.51-1 500 500 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages 4.9.30-2+deb9u5 500 500 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates/main amd64 Packages Regards, Adam
