Yes, I didnt change any BIOS settings since 2003.
I checked them, of course, but they were correct.
The error message was irrelevant. The real problem was that the
ICH4 Intel chipset appeared to late in the boot process.

The DMA problems appeared when I updated to the linux-image package
(unstable). I never had DMA problems before on that box. Last time
I remember DMA problems, it was a problem (some forgotten IDE patch)
in the debian package a few months (years?) ago.

As I wrote in the previous mail, it's fixed, but I dont know exactly
what was the fix. I rebooted several times with no luck. Then I tried
several config / package changes, and it finally worked.
