I think that your assessment of how I responded to #862425 is unfair.

It was quite reasonable for you to request that Matthew change the
source format.  But it was also quite acceptable for him to deny that
request.  That's the decision-making structure in Debian: the package
maintainer gets to decide things like that.

When I was made aware of the bug, I chimed in with a suggestion to
document the decision that Matthew had taken in a standardised way.  I
don't see how this could be hijacking.  Matthew had already decided to
use his workflow long before either of us got involved.
