Hi, it's been several months. I still strongly urge you to switch to the popular 3.0 (quilt) source format. Maybe the dgit-maint-gbp workflow would work for this. I don't know. I touch a very large number of Debian/Ubuntu packages and git-buildpackage is far more popular than dgit in my experience. Frankly, this bug has given me an excuse to not bother working on trying to backport security patches to older Ubuntu releases, so in my opinion, I would probably classify this bug as Severity: important.
