Upstream description: CoreDNS aims to be a fast and flexible DNS server. The keyword here is flexible: with CoreDNS you are able to do what you want with your DNS data. And if not: write a plugin! Motivation: coredns is approaching 1.0, and upstream care about .deb/.rpm packages. coredns supports interesting client configurations, including dns-over-tls and dns-over-json/https (to Google), as well as supporting server usecases.
