This sounds a lot like https://bugs.debian.org/354709 which has been
fixed upstream in 4.6.0. Or do you think it's a different issue.

It's only with wide characters (and even there not with all of them).

Do you have a possibility to check if the issue you encounter is gone
with the screen package from Debian Testing or Unstable?
