I have packaged the latest versions of 3.5 for Debian with system service file and not init.d For me it works fine, it can be found at: http://ngtech.co.il/repo/debian/
I have just started my cycle of 4.0.21 testing and I packaged it for CentOS 7 and couple other RPM based systems. If someone wants me to start packaging 4.0.x for Debian 8+9 I can oribably sit on it in the next month.
