Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. I am a bit low on capacity at the moment, but you are very welcome to do the debhelper backport on my behalf. I am happy to give you commit access to the debhelper git repo, so you can maintain the changes there (it would also make it easier for me to contribute to the -backports when I got more energy again). To the best of my knowledge, the current version in testing just needs a version bump and a rebuild in stable(-backports) with the proper version (see also https://jenkins.debian.net/job/lintian-tests_stretch/).
